Hey,

I need immediate help. Basically I got a used PSU from some guy online. I asked him to come hook it up for me, thinking his skills are better than mine when it comes to putting PC parts together. Basically I have a PC with the following specs:

Intel i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 970 Zotac
8GB of RAM (which for some reason instead of 8GB, 4GB are detected after switching back to my old PSU)
2 SSD's 500GB + 125GB (which for some reason instead of both being detected, only my main Windows SSD with 500GB is detected after switching back to my old PSU)
ASUS Maximum Hero VI

My old PSU was some crap no-name company that a friend used to complete my build because I was out of money. Yes, I know the CPU and GPU are really good and expensive and should have went with a quality PSU since the beginning but case was and still is that I was out of cash. Now I was told by many that I should by the Seasonic S12II-520 Bronze, 520W (pretty good at its price range). Which should be way better than the one I had, which had 500W and being a no-name company, God knows how much juice you actually get out of that PSU.

So I installed all cables as they where. Surprisingly the new PSU had 8 pins instead of 4 that my old one had. Basically I attached all the cables wherever I had the older ones. Put each cable where it belongs. I continuously tried putting them back on and off, in case some where not that firmly placed.

Now basically the GPU boots up. The fans of the PSU boot up. My liquid cooler boots up BUT it's fans are not spinning?! The code on the MOBO is stuck at 00 which basically means it's not booting up. So basically it looks like it's not booting up because of my CPU?! No idea really. I tried to take it apart and repeat the process for a few times. I also tried to reset the BIOS. Nothing.

Any ideas?

The very first thing to do is to double check the the motherboard supports the cpu model you have.

As for your memory if only 4gb out of the eight are detected via matched kit of two sticks.
It can point to having placed the two memory modules in the wrong set of memory slots of the motherboard in some cases.

Motherboard can be fussy on what memory slots must be populated with ram sticks, and you must check in the manual that came with the motherboard that they are positioned in the correct two memory slots of the board if there is a total of four memory slots on the board it`s self.

It will lead to the motherboard not reaching the bios post screen or the system not fully powering up Intzaki.
As for your SSD drives, and as you say only the main windows SSD drive of 500 GB being detected.

If the Asus board is new, then it may be likely that the board when it comes to the bios setup for any Sata data based drives has two Sata based chip sets on it, usually it`s a mix of an Intel Sata chip set and another branded Sata chip set used on the motherboard.

And depending on how many Sata ports the motherboard has one set of Sata ports runs via the Intel Sata chip set while for example another four say may run off the other branded Sata chip set of the board.

In most cases by default only the Intel Sata chip set is enabled. and the Other branded Sata controler chip set must be enabled in the bios depending on what Sata ports each Sata SDD drive is connected to intzaki.

Double check that the power to the 970 card is directly connected from the new Psu directly to the graphics card as it will also prevent the system from reaching the bios post screen to enter bios setup of the motherboard.

I`m suspecting the error is to do with the memory placement of the ram sticks in the motherboard slots.

It's for sure not the RAM. I mean think of this way, if the same exact cable placement works on the old PSU why doesn't it work on the new one? How can I know if my PSU is compatible with the motherboard. I tested it on another PC and it worked just fine (the new PSU). Right now I am running the old PSU and it works just fine on the PC, but the new one gives me nothing. The MOBO is stuck at code 00 which means it doesn't want to boot up. Funny thing is that the liquid cooler does turn on BUT the fans do not spin at all? The GPU's fans spin as well so I take that as it's also active. Basically everything seems like is cool but the CPU's liquid cooling fans don't turn on for some reason. KEEP IN MIND that exact cable placement works on OLD PSU but not on NEW PSU.
