Hi

Is this a 2.5" drive with power over USB ?
or a 3.5" drive with power from a psu?

assuming it has power from USB or PSU
If WD datalifeguard 4 Windows cant see the drive to test it and it's not showing in device manager then it probably has a fault on the controller board.

Contact WD support for advice on repairing drive possibly unter warantee

on many modern external USB drives the USB to SATA controller is integrated into the hard disk controller board so you cant just replace the USB Tray.

In Computer Management >> Disk Management it may just need a drive letter adding to it (right-click on "Raw" volume and choose "Change Drive Letter & Paths"

That's often the case when Disk Management shows external hard drive as "Raw", happens with my Passport portable hard drive every time I plug it in to my wife's laptop to backup her data. Simple fix, just needs drive letter adding to it.

If it's not that, the drive (or more likely it's SATA-USB bridge chip) is faulty.
