So I am building my first ever pc build and I don't know if I sure get 16gb ram or 8gb. I know that 16gb is obviously the best way but I just don't if i even need it. I am not a YouTuber, Video editor or anything like that. I do want to start to make games but that really won't start till next year because I am going to ATC. If I get 8GB I can save about 60 dollars so I don't know if I should get 8GB now as I won't have multiple programs open at once except for maybe like chrome and a game or I should go ahead and get the 16GB ram now. Your responses are greatly appreciated.

If you can't budget for 16GB now, DDR4 prices are expected to continue dropping, so 16GB might be a good deal cheaper next year. If you're trying to add 8GB later, just buy from a retailer with a good return policy like Amazon, in case it doesn't work with the stuff you're buying now.

If you're going to be doing serious software development a year from now, then I would get the full 16GB now. You might have trouble upgrading later because it can be a real PITA getting new memory to play well with old memory.

I know we are gonna be using stuff like the Unity engine and less demanding things like free paint programs so it's all over the place with what we'll be working with. To me the problem is I don't know what type of projects we'll be making with the more demanding engines like Unity. I guess I can just get 2x4 stick and upgrade to a 2x8 one or just get one more 2x4 one.
