im having an issue yet i search the whole internet to find out what it is yet no answer.my hdd seems to be making a spinning noise and sort of scrachty like noise.its not a seek noise but its like a spinning noise even at idle.i confirmed the drive wasnt seeking by dissconecting the sata cable and it still makes this noise.i really really worried if this is a defect because my other drive has defected and this one is my only drive now.so im really need to know if this is a defect or not.

theres parts of the vid where i closed my pc cases .you cant hear the hdd spinning when its close but in person you can hear it.and its faint but still audible.im using a seagate 1tb st1000dm003 drive.i will apreciate your responses and comments

Solution
Your HDD is perfectly fine and what you are hearing is either normal operational noise(i had 7200RPM seagates, they do get noisy; been using strictly 5400RPM WDs these days) or some coil whine generated by otehr parts in your system.

seagate tools also has smart test which i also used.yet every test including smart test dosent seem to show any issues.even preformance wise my drive shows no defects.its just the sound im worried about.maybe the sound can suprise me with a defect in the future or maybe all seagate hdd sound like this?i dont know.i really need to know whats with that sound.

FOr a 7200RPM drive, yes, it is. That is why i stay away.
The best solution though is to get an SSD for your OS. Not only it will change your computing experience completly, but the fact that the OS is not continously crunching on the HDD, will both save your years and prolong the lifetime of said HDD.

your probably right but damm they cost a fortune escpecially 2-3tb ones.maybe what ill do is grab a wd blue and use my noisy seaagate just as a backup drive.by the way i heard that wd blue have reduced noise if thats true.

They do, but be careful to choose the 5400RPM variant as they have both.
You should really see about an SSD aswell. Not that expensive these days. And no pc should be wihtout one.
