So I've been wondering if laptop CPUs are as good as desktop CPUs because of the new release of the gtx 10series of graphics cards for laptops which claim to be within 10% of the performance of the desktop GPUs. So are laptop CPUs the same? Is there a laptop model i7-6700k or 6800k??

Some are and some are not. You have to be very careful when purchasing, for example an i7 can encompass anything from a dual core HT low voltage chip to a full fledged 4C8T monster nearly identical to the desktop version with slightly lower clockspeed. In either case some features may be missing. For Intel I recommend to check their ARK website to identify the processor, just google the model number and it's usually the first result.
there are full desktop 6700Ks in the top of the line laptops. these are full fat 6700K chips. sadly there is no 6800K or anything X99 in laptops so far. chips like the 6700HK are still pretty potent although they are not as powerful as their desktop equivalent, this is because they have to fit in a set TDP range.
