Hello smart people,
I am replacing a cooked ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB graphics card in my late 2009 iMac. I found the replacement part online at allpartsmac.com but, their invoice notwithstanding, they sent an AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB.
My question: is the 6770 compatible with this computer? It will physically fit, and the screw holes align, but I don't want to put this all back together if it's not going to work. (Don't need maximum performance here since we don't do any gaming or other heavy lifting with this computer.)
Of course, I emailed the vendor for answers but they're closed for the next three days and I'd love to get this done this weekend. Also, I've found several references online to people installing the 6970 but only a couple of places that seem to confirm that I can use the 6770 so I'm reticent to install it without knowing more certainly.
Thanks in advance!
Matt
UPDATE:
Went ahead with it and so far all seems fine. Haven't done enough yet to discern any difference in performance, but it's always been kind of a sluggish machine anyway so I doubt this will do that much.
