Hey guys, first of all, this is my first post, and I'm not very clued up on all of this stuff, I know the basics and that's about it. My first PC was a very low end but it let me play the few games I wanted to play. But now as I'm getting older I'm looking for newer games, better graphics, frame rate etc. I've had two upgrades now and they've both been graphics cards. I can't remember what I had first, but I got a 760 next, and now a 970. I'm now looking for my next upgrade, mainly for better fps in games like battlefield and the such. I've been told by many people that I need to upgrade my processor, but I have no clue what I should upgrade to, or what I'd need to do (I've heard I'll need to buy a new motherboard and that). Anyway, sorry for the long post, and if it isn't in the format it should be, and thanks for any help!

Solution
If you want to get good fps in new games i would recommend one of these setups (these prices are USD)

-6600k if you are looking to overclock. You will need a Z-170 board and an aftermarket cooler. The 212 EVO will be fine in most situations and its very cheap. (LGA 1151 obviously) Total - $360ish

- If you want nearly the same power without the overclocking feature, then i would recommend an i5 6500. You will need any decent LGA 1151 motherboard for this. Total - $280ish

-Lastly, i would say that if you want to save a few bucks or just want an AMD chip, you could go for an FX-8350 Black edition. An AM3+ motherboard will usually be a bit cheaper than an Intel board as well. Total - $240ish ($20 more for the new Wraith cooler)

PS- Depending on how old your rig is, you may want to consider upgrading your power supply. I would choose something above 550 watts if you want some future proofing. Anything with 80+ gold is a great choice. Most 80+ bronze supplies will be fine but i would recommend an 80+ gold.

Cheers for the reply, I got a new power supply about 2 years ago for free because the shop put my graphics card in wrong and burned out something in my PC (needless to say, I go to a different shop now). I don't know what it is exactly but it says its output is 850 W, 230 V. I don't know if I should still upgrade it to be safe or not.
As for my processor and that, I'm thinking about this:

- https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASRock-Z170-Extreme4-Skylake-Motherboard/dp/B012D7HBTA/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1472973907&sr=1-1&keywords=lga+1151+motherboard
- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-RR-212X-17PK-R1-Continuous-Heatpipes/dp/B01ARGVNV6/ref=pd_bxgy_147_img_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=1DZPTG325CF4KC31MNTF

Does that look good? Again, thanks for the reply.

Hey, sorry for the delay. I think those parts would be a great choice. An 850w supply is more than enough so you wont have to worry about it at all. It's a good decision to get a Z-170 board in case you ever decide to get a k series cpu down the line. On top of that, ASRock is a reputable brand. I guess that's all I have to say so good luck with the upgrades!
