I7-6700k safe max voltage (non OC)?

Hello folks. After checking what's a safe voltage to have for my CPU, I've discovered many people saying "Personallu wouldn't go past 1.35" using hardware monitors like hwmonitor and hwinfo the vcore usually hovers between 1.2-1.32ish, only getting up to 1.35 for that initial startup. I haven't messed with voltages or tried to overclock or anything which, after a bit of searching, now has me worried because it's now saying under the max section of the monitors that my CPU, at times, jumps to 1.36. I don't know how strict the voltage limit is, or if I should be hitting that while having like 6-9 pages on chrome open with a few communication programs and WoW at max settings, but I'm slightly worried now about that. Checking in the bios, my voltage is 1.26ish and my DRAM is 1.368 (not sure if these numbers matter or not) Considering I don't OC is the reason it worries me being at that voltage? Am I just paranoid or is this an actual issue. I would greatly appreciate your help!

I just read on AsRcok forums that this is normal to have higer cpu temps at uefi/bios. Found This Youtube video of that motherboard explaining the uefi/bios on it.

Edit. At around 5:15+ on that video you can see where to find the voltage settings, I'll try to see if I can find a video or picture from that bios on how to actually set it since I don't have a AsRock motherboard myself.

Edit2. Doesn't seem like asrock has a adaptive setting for the voltage so you would need to go with a static voltage (this...

Some motherboards give a bit more voltage than what is needed for the cpu by default, but if the temperatures are ok there is nothing to worry about. Check temperatures with hwmonitor, CPUTIN shows the temperature from the sensor on motherboard and there's temperatures under the cpu for each core and package aswell (these will usually be higher than what you see on the motherboard sensor).

I use an ASRock Z170 Fatal1ty Gaming K6 mobo. Temps are always fine except for when I'm in the bios is registers at like 56-58C somehow. Is that normal for my mobo? Fan speeds fluctuate up and down constantly regardless of load and in the bios too.

At idle, I expect to see 10-15c. over ambient if you have any working cooler that is properly mounted.

As to voltages, that will vary by the quality of your particular chip.
If you have all set to default, anything at 1.35 or less during a stress test is good. 1.4 max.

If fan speeds are fluctuating, I suggest that perhaps you have a cooler problem.

What cooler do you have installed?

Yeah in my bios is registers high 50s, but when I'm idle on desktop with Skype open its about 27-33c and up to 40-45 tops with WoW up and low 60s with Witcher 3 on max everything but hair works, so idk? :( this is frustrating. On hwinfo/hwmonitor it lists my CPU speed at 4035-4037mhz. Afaik, it's a 4.0ghz chip too :/

Skylake has more andvanced speedstep and it can sometimes have a bit odd clocks depending on what it determines to be the best option to run at at any given load. Idle temps at desktop seem fine, a bit strange having a bit high temps at bios, could be a motherboard thing. Low 60s isn't too bad. It seems that your cooler might be struggling a bit with load though.

I mean, it really doesn't get hot enough to be of worry. Low 60s with the Witcher 3 nearly max and 40-45 for WoW maxed out with a decent amount of background apps. Should I worry or try to take steps to fix this or is it a non-issue and I'll be free to enjoy?

It's not a great cooler for a 6700K but it will do it's job. If you feel comfortable with playing some settings in bios you could propably bring down the voltages a bit by setting the cpu voltage to adaptive and putting the target voltage at 1.3V for example. This should bring down temperatures a bit aswell.

It's not really an issue, those temperatures should be safe, but you might get it more silent with playing with voltages if you feel comfortable with playing with bios settings. If not leave it at that.

How exactly would I change voltages then, like how do I do it, and how much should I lower them? I just want to fix my erratic fan issue and have peace of mind it all isn't going to blow up or break on me in the future :(

Edit2. Doesn't seem like asrock has a adaptive setting for the voltage so you would need to go with a static voltage (this increase power usage and heat when idle) or offset mode. In offset mode you can set the extra voltage to be fed to the cpu at each voltage step, you should be able to set this to negative to reduce the maximum voltage. Start with something small like -0.10V and check if the system is stable and check the voltages and effect on temperatures. This requires quite a bit more work like this though, and I'd recommend using google and reading about the subject before doing anything.

Your computer won't blow up even if you use it like it is now.
