Graphics card max memory

Hello! I want to know if i can get a 4gb card, but there is a Graphics card max memory of 2GB... I want to know if i can run the 4gb GTX 960 4gb card?

PC specs:

16Gb of RAM 1600Mhz DDR3 [Just upgraded]
i3 4160 3.6Ghz
Geforce Gt 740 2Gb [VRAM] [Overclocked it] 30fps 1k low settings Gta 5
B85M-K motherboard
500 Watt power supply
1 SSD
1 HDD
2 Monitors
1280x1080 Regular VGA
2560x1080 Ultrawide HDMI

New Card:
960 4GB of VRAM OC edition

Well yeah, but a 4GB 960 costs just as much as a RX 470 4GB or GTX 1060 3GB, both of which are much better in performance. Unless you are getting it used for less, I would go for one of the newer cards.

Where are you getting the graphics card max memory from? Because I don't see any limit on the mobo.

I'm thinking he saw that somewhere in reference to the 2GB his current GPU has. I've seen it before on my system, just can't remember where. It says max memory because of the current GPU's memory installed, not the maximum that can be installed.
