I have 8gb of ram and want to add more. Buy 2x8gb or buy another 2x4gb?

I am currently using 2x4gb ram for dual channel. I am planning to add more.

I read that having 2x8gb ram is better than having 4x4gb ram, but since I have already got 2x4gb of ram in my system, is it really worth spending more to get 2x8 and replacing my 2x4gb ram or is it better to save money and I can just buy another 2x4gb to reach 16gb of ram instead?

There's no guarantees when mixing DRAM, even if you get a set that's identical to what you have. Best to go 2x8GB, then could see if your old will play with the new or sell the old
