Dear community,
I have installed the NZXT kraken g10 with a kraken x31 cooler on my reference 290x Sapphire card.
When I started Far Cry Primal (with hd texture packs and Ultra settings) I got
temps up to 78-80 or so °C and a constant 60fps. However some moments later it kept dropping to about 38-44 fps and it didnt go up. I noticed the liquid temps where 82 °C or even more (to about 86)and the GPU temp was, again, 94°C. When I quit the game and started up csgo, the temp stayed at 94 and sometimes dropped to 92-93, but it is usually less than that while playing csgo(if I set the max fps to about 120, which I did aswell with the liquid cooler) and with the liquidcooler I expected it to be even lower than it is normally. The vrm temps are about 68 and 72, whick is pretty neat if I read that well.
I noticed that the radiator gets damn hot, so hot I cant even touch it for a second. I just think something is wrong but I can't figure out what.
Help is really appreciated, thanks!

Solution
The 290x is known for being a really hot running card. When you installed the cooler did you remember to apply thermal paste and is the water block positioned correctly. Your card seems to be thermal throttling which suggest that the cooling solution is either to weak or not installed correctly. I would check the g10 brackets and that the x31 is seated properly with thermal paste applied evenly.

what case/tower are you using?

at 1080p in most, 1440p in quite a few, usually at the highest or near to the highest ingame settings my 8GB 290X has never passed 65°C playing the most intensive games out there, still using it's stock PCS+ cooler.
also my 4790K at 4.6Ghz has never passed 60°C with the Thermaltake Water Extreme cooler.
you are getting rather extreme temperatures where i would not expect.

i would guess it's either a problem with the installation of these coolers you're using or general airflow in/out of the case.
