Hey everyone.

Recently got an asus m2n68-am plus motherboard, and the official website says it can support up to 8 gigabytes of RAM. I have 2x4gb cards installed, yet I only have 4 gigs avaiable. Both cards work as swapping them did no difference, and the slots themselves work as I've tried other ram cards as well. The task manager also says that it's using 2gb/4gb ram. I'm using windows 7 pro.

The memory model does matter. I have found a few systems that will not work with single sided 4GB modules and others that wont work with some brands.

What is the make and model of your memory? Does it show up on the Asus QVL list?

I looked at the manual and it is saying you can install up to 2GB modules into the DIMM sockets however the QVL list does show that a Samsung 4GB module is supported. I wonder if the site is wrong. Might have to contact Asus support to see which is correct but most things are pointing to that board supporting only 4GB total RAM.

I installed CPUZ, yes, what now? And there's only 2 ram slots and both of them work as I've tried booting up with only one RAM card and it worked in either slot.

go to the memory tab what does it say about the memory? can you post a screenshot of it?

although it is seeming the person at ASUS had the wrong info. it seems the board only supports up to 4 GB. although how it could use 4GB in a single slot then seems odd.

There is sometimes a misinformation in the nomenclature of some RAM. I've come across this on several occasions here on Tom's. A person purchases what they believe to be 2x4GB RAM Kit, believing they are getting a total of 8GB of RAM, whereas in fact, they are purchasing a two piece 4GB RAM kit (2x2GB).

If you could provide us with the model number on the sticker of the RAM modules, we should be able to clear this up.

@Wolfshadow , they are both 4GB cards, when I plug only one in, it says 4 gigs total, but if you really want I can get the number off it
@Robert but then why would they say 8 gigabytes on asuses official website?
