My GTX 760 has been acting very weird lately. The fan on it doesn't work properly and makes weird noises when running and whenever I'm playing a game it will reach temperatures of 80+ and sometimes even spike up as high as 100+ and then crash my system. I am very scared of using it right now to prevent causing further damage.

It's not the best GPU, I know, but when I bought a pre-built gaming PC 1-2 years ago it came with it and it's enough to run most games pretty well.

I cleaned the dust from it as much as possible and I also changed the thermal paste a few months ago as well.

I think the fact that the fan is not spinning properly may be causing overheating. If I set it at 100% speed it will spin at 600 RPM which is not a good thing I think.

For reference, this is what my GPU looks like: http://media.bestofmicro.com/geforce-gtx-660-geforce-gtx-650,9-X-351573-22.jpg

Solution
It sounds like your fan is failing. You can replace the fan by taking any 4-Pin PWM fan and either plugging it directly into the GPUor, if the pin spacing is narrower on the graphics card than the fan, by cutting the wires off the stock GPU fan and splicing the new fan to the wires going to the original connector.

I will do that and let you know how it goes and if I have any further issues. Thanks.
