So I bought a new CPU and Motherboard and have been having an awful time. It took me hours and multiple times gutting the comp to get the thing to start up. Turned out that removing all the ram except for one of the bars somehow made the computer decide to start.

So now I'm at the point where I start my computer, it shows the "starting windows" screen with the icon and then sends me directly the the "gigabyte bios setup" where it gives me the options to configure the bois/q-flash or set the boot options. I have looked through the bios setup for the past few hours trying to figure everything out. Most of the options seem like I should not mess with them as I dont want to worry about overclocking right now. I set the boot options to my hard drive... the other options I dont know what they mean. So when I exit the program and attempt to boot up the windos startup appears again and immediately sends me back to the Gigabyte bios setup. Was there software I need to install prior to putting in the new hardware? What configuration am I missing that wont allow the os to boot up?

Solution
I would back up whatever I need on the SSD to the HDD because, yes, everything will be erased with a reinstallation.

And as you've outlined in your first paragraph, that's exactly how you would go about reinstalling Windows.

So its impossible to install a new motherboard without having to fully re install windows? So I dont have the cds because my comp came with windows already installed and the sticker on my comp that has the serial number for my windows copy wont be accepted by windows lol. So im basically out of luck.

I have windows 7 and would like to keep windows 7. If I put back all the old hardware and install the new drivers and update the bios for the new motherboard could that possibly work?

No, that is NOT what is causing you to not boot.

What is causing you to not boot is the fact that Windows knows it's on a completely new system (new motherboard = new system) and that's throwing it off. No amount of BIOS fiddling or driver downloading is going to fix that.

Ok so at this point I have no media for a windows install. So basically I will have to get a new windows installation cd, pop it in and then a boot option for that cd will appear on the Gigabyte bios, then run the new windos installation from there and that should solve it?

Does that also mean that if I reinstall the os that all the other data on my computer will be erased? Should I put all the data from my SSD on to my HDD as a backup or will only the operating system be reinstalled?
