I am planning on using a msi gaming m5 z170 chip set I have speakers with an amp on it but also want to have a sound card looking for a good budget one with drivers for windows 10 but may not need one if anyone knows how the sound on that motherboard is i am used to crap for sound on old motherboards from 2012 so if the sound is at least decent then i may not need one

Creative sound are a great company, no need to worry, they do some of the best sound cards in the business. ;)
Again, as I mentioned, for speakers you'll be fine with on board, if you're buying a sound card and don't have a good pair of headphones or a good set of speakers, i'd invest in those first, as it won't improve sound unless you have the hardware for it! :p

I'm not using 1150 I'm using 1151 sky lake i5 6600k so the onboard audio o that will be fine with speakers no need for a sound card because i heard the audio on this board is kind of sickish and the Asus z170 A with the crystal sound wasn't better either

I recommend the ASUS Xonar DGX PCI-E GX2.5 : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TMZ1BK/ref=s9_top_hd_bw_b1C5v_g147_i2/154-1855098-4873815?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=4WH27MQ5AFERR6TY7S7A&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=202b99be-dd6c-5402-b007-d88175803d72&pf_rd_i=284823
The Creative Sound Blaster Audigy PCIe RX 7.1 Sound Card is also a great option but is more expensive: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EO6X7PG/ref=s9_top_hd_bw_b1C5v_g147_i6/154-1855098-4873815?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=4WH27MQ5AFERR6TY7S7A&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=202b99be-dd6c-5402-b007-d88175803d72&pf_rd_i=284823
I personally think the Asus card is better bang for the buck.
The sound cards above have windows 7/8/10 support and are great for budget users like yourself, I hope i could help.

Edit: the on-board sound is good but you can still benefit from the upgrade. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

The creative sound blaster isnt an unknown company, they are very popular for sound creation devices, if anything they would be more trustworthy than Asus xD. Anyway its your choice just know they are both great companies!

You have a good point, he should buy good headphones and then get the full potential of the card. Most headphones come with amplifiers anyway and they connect via usb... You should buy headphones and use the amplifier instead of getting a sound card.

On i know creative sound is a good company just using that as a general idea for anything you buy but acefry i don't have good headphones just a pair of 20 dollar skull candy and i like using ear buds more but i wont be using headphone much just want to use speakers but my speakers have an amp but the onboard sound will be fine even with the speakers with an amp the onboard audio seems like it will be pretty decent but using a sound card will make it work better
