How to put up my backup or recovery on my HDD instead of SSD?

First off I want to know how to configue and install a Samsung 950 PRO (NVMe M.2 SSD) so that it will only be for my OS and Steam and other games.

Next I want to know how to configure so that the back up and recovery would be placed on my 3TB P300 Toshiba HDD.

I use the MSI Z170A M7 motherboard and will either choose from the Corsair 750D or the Corsair Carbide Air 540.

I will still have to buy and then build the pc but I want to know a motherboard that can accommodate the maximum speed of the Samsung 950 PRO (NVMe M.2 SSD) first and have no issues with the other drives.
