SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 7970 6gb cf with gigabyte 7950 3gb

Solution
Hi there,

The faster card will clock down to the slower card's speed.

Ideally you want to get the 7950 going as fast as it can - the 7970 will drop itself down to become a 7950.

You're essentially crossfiring 2x 7950/280/380

The 7950 was rebranded to the R9 280 and R9 380, so are still supported under AMD's GCN architecture and can take advantage of Windows 10 and DX12 features.

Not bad cards at all.
Question is:

Why the hell are you even bothering with a 5 year old card? Even the $150 cards out there today are faster for most purposes, and a $250 card will be twice as fast as that CF with a quarter the energy consumption.

If you really want to do it and spend nothing doing it, it will result in basically a 7950x2 with 3GB. Sometimes there are compatibility issues but in general you should be able to mix the two

hi

i live in new zealand and buyying a used gpu is cheaper then buying new one. i would like to get a gtx 1070 which is around $429.99 usd which in my money is around $900 even the rx 480 is $500nzd but is $250usd.

i was given a hd 7970 for free that is why i am asking as all ready had a 850w psu with a hd 7950

Like I said, spending money is a bad idea, but if you got one for free then go wild ;)

Just remember that in some games the 7970 alone will be faster than CF, and for all games you'll increase micro-stuttering (but whether that is an issue for you isn't something anyone can tell you)

Too true.
Forgot about the 285.
