Recently, Nivida released a new driver on 8/30/2016. After this update, my games started to plummet down to 20-30 FPS. Games like Witcher III, Black Desert Online (JP), Metal Gear V, Dragon's Dogma Online & Skyrim had the exact same values after the update. There was also a following Windows 10 update I received the next day - hoping this would fix the issue, but unfortunately it didn't.

I decided to roll back the driver to it's previous state since my games ran around 57-60 beforehand. All the games listed above ran fine for a few hours until Black Desert started to plummet to 9 FPS. Checked the other games, and they also shot down to 9 FPS. I reinstalled the driver again (372.70) and I received the same results. 9 FPS for each game listed. I've tried numerous anti-viruses, malwarebytes, reimage repair, and still received the same issue. I then decided to take another measure.

I've tried just about everything, I think. Purchased air cans, cleaned the fans, keyboard, even purchased a air purifier. Ran a system scan and discovered corrupt files in the system. Spent about 2-3 days fixing this particular issue - due to the fact I kept receiving "call" errors every line in attempt to perform a DISM run in cmd. I finally fixed the corrupt file problem in my system with "Media Creation Tool" and I was overjoyed. I was certain this would solve my FPS issue for good, but unfortunately it did not. 9 FPS all the same.

I've called Microsoft. They want $199. Contacted Windows tech support and let them take access to my computer to look at the DISM logs, (yes I was desparate..) and they also wanted $99. It's 12:24AM right now and I'm literally biting the chewy analog sticks on my controller in frustration. I don't know what to do at this point.

Specs.
-Geforce GTX 880M
-Geforce GTX 880M
-Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4820K CPU @3.70GHz
-8.00GB RAM (7.92 usable )
-1920x1080, 60Hz
- Version 372.70
-Windows 10 Home.

No way I going to spend $200-$300 for FPS recovery. I'm thinking it's a driver issue of some sort.

Update: Now I get 15 FPS on a single GPU with SLI enabled 40's

when you dip down to that kind of fps its usually either cpu overheating and throttling to keep from dying

or miner malware

do you monitor cpu temps while gaming?

run malware scans?

I ran numerous scans as soon I had faced this issue. I used Malwarebytes and Avira. Everything was fine. How to you monitor CPU temps? I also found out that Windows 10's release was Version 1607. The recent update I received was
August 31, 2016 — KB3176938. I uninstalled that build and still low FPS. I don't know if I should install the rest of the Anniversary Update or leave it be.

1. Is the laptop plugged in?
2. Is the laptop in power saving mode?
3. Are you using manufacturer (asus/msi/whatever) drivers, or drivers downloaded from Nvidias website? (laptop vendors only support their own software)
4. Are you doing a clean driver install? (deleting old config and using DDU)
5. (stupid question) Are you definitely not playing on the intel graphics?

Please run GPU-z and note the perfcap, gpu usage, clock speed and temperatures reason when you're playing a game for each GPU.

1.) Laptop is always plugged in.
2.) Balanced mode.
3.) Nvidia drivers from their website.
4.) I forgot to mention yesterday I called Nivida, was informed to use their uninstall tool DDU.
5.) I checked the BIOS (although it may seem like a stupid question, this is the first time I had to resort to this measure on my laptop.) I don't see an option to disable the use of intel graphics.

I ran GPU-Z and here are the results for Black Desert Online:

GPU Core Clock - 405.0MHz
GPU Memory Clock - 405MHz
GPU Temp - 88.0-90.0 Celsius
GPU Load - 0%-(40%)
Perfcap Reason - Thrm (Pink Bar Full?)

I sincerely believe Windows 10 (KB3176936) is the culprit. This cannot be uninstalled. I've tried multiple drivers from Nividia, uninstalling, clean reinstall from windows just about everything it seems.

That right there is likely the culprit. That's very hot, at the same time, the clocks are way low. Btw, do you place your laptop on a table, or against something that can plug up all the ventilation holes?

Hm. Now that you guys have mentioned it...When I do use air cans to blow out the dust, I've noticed a single stiff fan. It's not loose like the other three - but it does spin if I blow air on it enough. I set my laptop on a sturdy cardboard box, since I live in a small studio apartment that consists of carpet flooring. The laptop is prone to dust - thus the reason why I clean it every week. The ventilation holes aren't obstructed, so it must be that single stiff fan and the dust from the carpet that's causing it to overheat.

Never had a problem until Aug. 31st 2016. Guess I'll do a thorough cleaning.

You guys are awesome. I freaked out over nothing. I purchased some tweezers, took out a small brush from a barber's kit and thoroughly cleaned each and every fan. The fourth fan, I pulled a "worm" sized string of dust that was wrapped around the wheel of the fan. This brought my FPS back up to 27-30 with a single GPU. 57-60 with SLI enabled on Black Desert Online. Again, thank you guys for the help.

GPU-Z I now get 66.0-71.0 degrees.

Played Black Desert Online the 2nd time with SLI enabled, now I'm getting 78-80 FPS. Again, guys thank you for your time.
