After many hours of research and evaluation I have decided to upgrade to 1440p gaming. However I need advice in two categories - GPUs and monitors.

The issue that I'm having regarding GPUs is deciding which one to invest in. Due to budget constraints I am currently looking into purchasing a GTX 980ti but I'm also interested in potentially buying a 1070 instead. Is the 1070 worth the extra £35 ($46.65) more than the 980ti.

Additionally I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to what monitor would be good for 1440p gaming. Currently I'm thinking of purchasing the Benq GW2765HT which is priced at £317.10 ($422.57). Are there any other monitors that are of the same price or cheaper that you would recommend.

Solution

in that case, the BenQ you mentioned is an excellent choice.
The GTX 1070 worth every penny.
Simply because it is newer, has better optimization for newer DX12/Vulcan, will be longer supported in drivers, will be running cooler, and has more vRAM.
regarding the monitor, you probably want a monitor with higher than 60Hz refresh rate for gaming.

Thanks for the help regarding the 1070 - however the monitor you suggested is out of my price range. If it helps I'm not looking to play games at anything greater than 60fps therefore a 144HZ monitor would be obsolete. Do you have any other suggestions?

Wait wait wait, this is what I have.
Get this, 1440p 144hz IPS, it is freesync, but you can just disable that and have it function as a normal monitor.
The absolute best you can get in this price range, kick up a little more dough.
