Hi guys!

I'm currently gaming on a phenom 965 black edition, but I have a GTX 970 and I (obviously) notice a huge bottleneck, I was wondering if there are any good upgrade choices here.
I have been looking into the AM3+ option more than an intel CPU as I don't have the money to splash out on another motherboard at the moment.

Thanks for any help and by all means tell me if I have left something important out of my thread!

there's no AM3 CPU worth taking into consideration, the 965 is pretty much top of the line already for gaming
better save some money, maybe you can afford an uptodate Intel CPU + board for Christmas
basically even an i3-6300 would be a major leap forward

I would not buy an AMD FX CPU in 2016 they are like almost 5 years old at this point. In my opinion you would be better off saving up for a switch to intel or waiting for AMD zen which will be available to buy hopefully first quarter of next year, that's what I'm doing. I would not spend any money trying to upgrade on the AM3+ platform.

Thanks for all the help, i'm not the greatest with PC components so i'll have a look into Zen and Intel! Intel sounds like the best bet here though as at the moment I struggle to get decent FPS on most multiplayer games, I can JUST hit 60fps (with dips) on overwatch but playing the Battlefield 1 beta i'm getting around 15 fps :/
