Can the Verizon Samsung Galaxy s5 SM-G900V phone be rooted?

Hello again!
I feel like I was just an innocent bystander in the war of rooted vs. unrooted phones. I had no interest in rooting.
But the June 03 2016 firmware update I took to my s5 caused the phone to not work as good as it once did.
Add to that, I had just finished paying off the phone with Verizon's 2 year contract (my 2nd contract with them), and Verizon didn't want to help me with my dysfunctional phone.
All they wanted to do was sign me up to another 2 year contract with the s7 phone and would not even look at my s5 phone!
So now I have tried to do research on the web about rooting and I have become convinced that part of the reason for the June 03 2016 firmware update was possibly to close loopholes because rooters had found a way to get past Samsungs defenses.
Thus, Samsung has harmed me with their firmware update and Verizon has harmed me with their unwillingness to help me.
I have therefore been forced to come out on the side of the rooters and support their cause.
Sorry for the lengthy explanation.

So far, my research into rooting has shown that most posts are around 2 years old. In that time, towelroot came and worked and then became not working. Therefore people have been looking for a way to continue rooting the s5.
I don't understand ChainFire (another way to root). It seems complicated. I'm not terribly worried about violating warranties. Indeed, I feel violated with how I'm being treated. Verizon seems unwilling to honor themselves anyway. They probably wouldn't honor a warranty on such an "old" phone (old in their opinion) anyway.
Therefore does anyone know of where rooting the s5 stands these days?
I'm tired of the Samsung/Verizon combo jerking me around.
Thanks.

Solution
Okay I did some more research on it and here's what I have come up with:

First of all, root is not available for your model specifically i.e. SM-G900V on Android 6.0

Secondly, be advised that if you don't follow the steps properly, you may brick your phone which is not cool in any aspect.

So you are right that the rooting will have to be done on Android 5.0. So you have to revert back to older version first. Here’s a link for downgrading and rooting on Android 5.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370/

Please be very careful in doing it if you go for it. Good luck!

Thanks for that link. I read the comments with that link and it seems no one was successful. I have the version 6.0.1 running on my phone. I have my doubts this link will work and I'm kinda afraid to mess up something on my phone if I try to implement OneClickRoot.

I read something somewhere about downgrading to a lesser OS and then try rooting. How would I downgrade and which downgraded version might work, I wonder?
Thanks.

Hey.
Thank you for the reply.
I deeply apologize. My absent-mindedness had me totally forget about this thread. Actually, I had thought that I would get emails letting me know that there had been a reply to this thread. I don't recall any emails like that and unfortunately because of that, my mind let this slip. Humble apologies.

To update anyone still reading this.....Yes, my research has led me to that conclusion as well-that I must first downgrade and then root.

I have not yet tried anything mainly out of fear, because there seems to be so many websites out there telling me how they would do it and every description is a little different as to how to go about it.

One thing that the sites tell me is to first find the right firmware for my particular phone. For reinstall reasons to your phone, I suppose, in case something goes wrong. I have found that trying to find that particular firmware is more difficult than it sounds. And if I do find it and have to try to reinstall the firmware to the phone, how do you do that if the phone becomes unresponsive? There again, more websites telling me how they would do it and each way a little different.

Thanks once again for the help. I will look at your link.

Meanwhile, I have tried exploring a different tack. I am trying to understand why the phone memory is so full and the SD card has practically nothing on it. If I could learn what the phone memory is retaining (like unneeded logs or caches maybe?) and somehow delete that junk and free up some space......

And learn how to move some of those apps and/or files off phone memory and to the SD card......

Trouble with some apps, I think from reading and personal experience from a long time ago, is that some of them become partially- or non- functional when moved to the SD card. Am I right?

Anyway, thanks again, and I'll try to remember to monitor this thread. Take care.

Hello again,
Boy, I'm sure no good at this.......sorry.
Ah, not sure where 'all apps' is.
I seem to be hovering around 4GB of space left out of 16GB internal storage. I can't tell where all that memory is being used up at. It says System Memory is using 5.45 GB but it won't tell me what system memory is. I don't know how to get to it to see what it is and possibly delete some unnecessary data.

However, I decided to try Samsung Kies as the first step (I am told) to try and downgrade to KitKat version 4.4.4 . It won't work. Says there is a system error.

Tried downloading an alternative to Kies- something called Akruto. It doesn't work. It says it has something to do with Outlook sync to computers, phones, and tablets. It is supposed to be an alternative to Kies and as such, allow downgrading.....so I don't see what Outlook has to do with that.

So, how about this question......is there a way to downgrade to KitKat WITHOUT using Samsung Kies?

Thanks for all of your patience.

Peace.

Hello and thanks again for being so patient.
I just looked at the link and it looked promising. But when I went to download the first option (the Stock KitKat Rom N12) they talk about, it isn't there. Says File 404. I guess it's been moved or deleted.

Since I don't know what it was, I don't know what to replace it with.

Also further down, I noticed, for instance, item 6) Wipe Data and the Cache. ( This will erase everything on your phone). But I don't even know how to wipe anything. How do you do that? What buttons do you press to do that? It doesn't tell me how that is done. Besides, wouldn't that be considered a 'bricked' phone at that point if it erases everything? I'm assuming this would be where the Stock KitKat Rom N12 comes into play (which I can't get from here). But would the empty phone even respond to take a download?

Also, I once tried holding down three buttons at a time before with no result that I could see. Likely I did something wrong. But I wonder if I can even do that right. Is there a sequence to doing that?

Thanks again so much.
