Will Q9550 work for battlefield 1 and can i get away with just a GPU upgrade?

Greetings fellow lifeforms,

I've been playing battlefield 1 and i'm really enjoying the game. However, i'm only getting 30-40 FPS at low settings and i'm looking to sit over 60 comfortably around the mid-high settings ( maybe even ultra ;) ). Here are my specs:

- Intel core 2 quad Q9550 at 3.4 Ghz
- 8 GB of ddr2 ram
- Asus gtx 680 DCU2 2G
- 512GB SSD
- Corsair tx650 PSU
- Asus p5q pro turbo motherboard
- 1440p 27" Samsung monitor

Requirements say i need to upgrade CPU but i've seen some youtube videos of people playing with core 2 quads and gtx 750ti's at around 60 FPS (medium 1080p).
Is it safe to say that if i upgrade my GPU i will be able to achieve what i want? Also what GPU would be recommended?

Thanks!

I doubt a faster gfx card will make any difference. The GTX 680 is probably more GPU than the Q9550 can keep up with now. Busy servers with lots of players is very demanding on older slower CPUs. And playing at 1440p will definitely drag down GPU performance. The GPU has to render over a million more pixels per frame than at 1080p.
Depending on how many players you're playing with, CPU load changes. Likely a faster GPU will not net higher framerates, but you can check with something like MSI Afterburner or OpenHWMonitor. Check to see whether your CPU or GPU is pegged at 100%.

I've played both Conquest (64 players) and Rush (24 players) and I had about the same FPS, 30-40? Can we draw any conclusions from that?

We'd need to see CPU and GPU usage statistics to be sure. That kinda suggest that your GPU is the limiting factor, but again, if you lower graphical settings and your framerates go up, that's another way to tell your GPU is what's setting your framerate, and not your CPU.

No,
you need to change your CPU ( since your socket is 775, only thing you can do is to mod a Xeon, if your mobo is compatible )
BF1 is really CPU intensive game ( Specially for Core2Quad CPUs, also bottlenecks )
Also check your CPU Usage while gaming.
Im getting 25-30fps on ultra Settings, 1080p ( in open area i get 30-35 max )
I have:
Core2quad Q9400 @3.6Ghz
GTX 960 4GB
6GB DDR2 RAM.

Ill try to get some tomorrow and see where that takes make. Thanks for your insight!
