SO I want to stay on a bit of a budget and I am in the gtx 1060 vs RX 480 area of the world I was wondering if you guys expect the prices to come down especially of the 480 because right now the 470 is going for around 200 whilst the 480 is like 300. I originally was team nvidia, but if the 480 can come around for 200 I'd being willing to get it and possibly sli in the future. Also if I could future proof please keep that in mind because I would sli 480's in the future. Lastly why does 480 do "better" in dx12 is that just driver stuff will the 1060 catch up or is the 480 a better option? Thanks guys

Solution
You list a dual core processor and a non-sli motherboard with 4gb ram. For future proofing, as you stated, you want a quad core i5 or greater cpu and a motherboard which can handle sli/crossfire. The 1060, 470 or 480 would work with these. The 1060 can not do sli or dx12.

the 1060 can very much do dx12??

but yes, your board doesn't support SLI however there is basic Crossfire support for 2 AMD cards
your dualcore will eventually struggle

the 480 does better in dx12 due to the way it is build to say it siplified. it's not 'just driver stuff' however I reckon NVIDIA will do some 'driver stuff' to close the gap eventually in the future if they can, provided AMD is potent enough to put out a card that really pushes NVIDIA to get innovative

also while the Rx480 does better in dx12, it mostly just closes the gap to the GTX1060 as the 1060 is generally the faster card

you'll have a hard time finding a 480 for 200 so within your price range the 470 sounds appropriate

That's fine with me that it doesn't support sli at least it has crossfire and I might use that down the road. I know the dualcore will struggle it's probably temporary that's why I am looking at buying the z170 mobo so I can upgrade in the future. OK so it's true that the AMD cards are currently more future proof which is good. I agree the 470 seems appropriate for my needs I will only be playing on like 1080p 60Hz displays. Is there a specific 470 you would recommend and do you approve of my mobo for the price? Thanks!!

Oh don't misunderstand me, I wasn't saying AMD cards are more future proof than the 1060 at all.
I was saying they support dx12 better than a 1060 but that only causes them to run as fast (them meaning the rx480 8gb) as the 1060 in dx12 games (while they're behind in dx11) as the 1060 is the more powerful card

As for the board it depends on what you plan to upgrade to. I'm not a fan of getting a very cheap board and then pairing it with a high-end CPU and looking for a decent overclock.
When you're on a budget, I'd pick a nice H170 board that has SLI support. The H170 is cheaper, so you get a better quality for the same price and can still upgrade to an i5-6500 for example later on.

It's fine I understand what you mean I just think although Nvidia is prettier AMD is the way to go for me right now. Don't worry the board I am looking at is expensive just on sale. What do you think of the two cards below?

I see I'll have to decide how much I want to spend. You got a less satanic card lol. To be honest the name of that one is a bit of a turnoff for me, but I appreciate the insight.
