This is my first build. Never had used a graphics card before.

What are some important things should I consider before buying a graphics card for my pc?

Specs-
i5 6500, 16 GB ddr4, 1 tb hdd, antec VP 650W, Antec GX505 case

I am planning to buy a GTX 1070 (from Gigabyte or Zotac).

What should I do before buying a card?

Please give some advise because it's a shitload of money I would be spending. Thanks.

Solution
Measure the space in your case that card would occupy, no point buying a card that is too big for case
Make sure PSU has enough power cables to run the extra power to card (I think 1070 still have them)
Make sure card works with motherboard though judging from CPU I assume that isn't a problem.

probably more, that was off top of my head :)

All other chipsets except the Z and H are for small home and business users, not much load just normal surfing and databasing. But I presume you're into gaming so it's best to go for the Z and H. Plus it'll be a good long term investment.
