Dear Community

I was thinking about a new build for a long time. Some weeks ago, my water cooling exploded and took half my PC with it. Now is as good a time as any, so i wanted to ask you guys, what you think about my build. Toms Hardware is my go to community, when it comes to PC. Thank you in advance.

I think i should give you the following info first:

Reson for build

The Goal is a Gaming PC. I want to play on 1920/1080, no dual monitor and the like.
Of course i want to be able to play all Games available at the moment, and wouldnt mind my PC to be able to last 4 years.
With the following build, no SSI or Crossfire is planned. Im located in Switzerland.
Now when it comes to money, i would really prefer to stay under 1000$ if it is possible. But of course, performance comes first. Now lets see:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K
I like the price/performance ratio, and the possibility to overcloak is nice for future lasting.

CPU Cooler: DeepCool Gammaxx 400
Here comes my first question. The Price of this shiny mid-size cooler is amazing. My only concern is, since overclocking is on the table, will it have enough Power to cool my CPU adequately or do i have do go with, say, Noctua NH-D14 ?

Motherboard: Asrocks Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K4
Memory: Patriot Viper 4 2x8GB DDR4
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
I read somewhere that it would be better to go with a PCIe SSD, rather then SATA, and a Z170 is designed to accomodate one, but they are double the cost. worth it?
Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1060

I have to explain a bit here: My old Video Card is probably the only thing that survived the zero hour. Its a Radeon HD 7970. I was thinking about keeping it, not buying a new card right at the moment, and then go for a GTX 1070 once its a little cheaper, in a year or so.
Alternatively, i thought about the GTX 1060, mainly because its less than half of what a GTX 1070 would cost. But then i saw several tests in which the AMD Radeon RX 480 beat the GTX 1060, and they are in the same price class. What do you guys think?

Power Supply: Corsair RM550x
Is 550W enough for my system?

Case: fractal design define r5

I was thinking about going with the older r4, since my brother bought it and had only great experiences with it. I really like the sound dampening.

This is it. Thank you guys for any inputs.

Solution
well it supports the Vengeance LPX @2800 and the Vengeance LED @3000
the LED are just regular Corsair Vengeance sticks with LEDs added
to be at the safe side, you could go with the DDR4-2800MHz Vengeance RAM
3000MHz RAM is a bit trickier while 2800MHz mostly run at the same volts as 2133MHZ RAM not every 3000MHz RAM does
maybe that's why it's not on the support list
in performance, there won't be a noticeable difference between the 3000MHz and the 2800MHz sticks anyway

theyre on par however the nhd14 if same price, it has the same peformance and 0 chance on leaks

absolutly no

the 1060 will max out anything for the next 5 years

both are great cases up to you

Ok thanks. I thought you would pick my build apart. The most reassuring part from you superninja, is that the 1060 should max out everything in the next 5 years. I didnt think so, thats why i was thinking about switching to the (almost double cost) 1070.
As long as both, the 1060 and 1070 fit into either r4 or r5, i should be fine.
Also i was worried if the CPU cooling was enough, i will probably go with the NH14 then.

Another thing: 550 W should be enough with my system right?

Alright here is the update:

Im going with the noctua dh14 as my CPU Cooler, since the 4 Heat pipes of the Deep Cool Gammaxx 400 dont align well with the hotspot of the skyline architecture (actually since ivy-Bridge).

Now i had the Problem that i have only 44mm space for my RAM, thats why i switched my memory to : CORSAIR Vengeance LPX Black, 2x 8GB, DDR4-DIMM, PC4-19200 (2400MHz), CL15-15-15-36
or maybe the CORSAIR Vengeance LPX (2x, 8GB, DDR4-3000) CL15-17-17-35
What do you guys think about the memory?

And I guess i go with the 550W. Should be enough.

And I'm second guessing my case. I cant currently decide between the fractal design define r5 or the Nanoxia deep silence 1 rev. B. I love the cases beacause of the soundproofing.

the R5 is the better case as Nanoxias don't have as good airflow
usually you can save a few bucks on the R5 by going for the Thermaltake F31 suppressor (which is a plain copy of the R5 but with some additional features as 200mm fan support, dust filters for the top and I think an additional drive bay)

Corsair Vengeance LPX is a lovely RAM
and the Noctua NH-D14 is one of the best coolers out there

Great advice, thanks. Now i guess this is peanuts, but i cant decide between the two memorys, they are the same price:

CORSAIR Vengeance LPX Black, 2x 8GB, DDR4-DIMM, PC4-19200 (2400MHz), CL15-15-15-36

or maybe the CORSAIR Vengeance LPX (2x, 8GB, DDR4-3000) CL15-17-17-35

it doesn't make much of a difference (except for fallout apparently)
but fps gains will be minimal

some people say higherclocked RAM helps with overclocking the CPU
others say it limits it

basically I'd go with what you get cheaper as the difference won't be big if there is any
if the few bucks don't matter to you, the DDR4-3000 gives you the potential to clock to 3000MHz or downclock it to 2400MHz

So this looks like my final build.

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K for 266.-
CPU Cooler: Noctua NHD14 for 80.-
Motherboard: Asrocks Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K4 for 134.-
Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance LPX (2x, 8GB, DDR4-3000) for 85.-
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO MZ-75E250 for 89.-
Storage: Western Digital WD Blue 1TB, for 68.-
Video Card: Inno3D GeForce GTX 1070 Twin X2 - 8GB GDDR5-RAM (N1070-1SDN-P5DN) für 440.-
Power Supply: Corsair CX650M for 80.-
Case: fractal design define r5 for 110.-

makes a final 1352.- its over my initial budget, but i want to OC and the 1070, so i pay the extra mile.

Do you guys see any other incompatibilities or thelike?

Great, is it in your eyes a problem, that the CORSAIR Vengeance LPX (2x, 8GB, DDR4-3000) is not on the QVL of the Asrocks? Only the 2400 is on the list.

thanks everybody for the help. I picked the build i wrote last, took the 2400 RAM and the new noctua nh-d15.
Also i skipped the video card for the moment and went with my radeon hd 7970. this way, i stay under 900$. I will see how it goes, and as soon as i'm seeing performance problems, i will upgrade to the GTX 1070 or whatever model is out there when the time comes.
