Long story short:
I am currently contemplating backing up all my stuff from Drive 2, and install windows 7 in it,( I am unable to boot Drive 1 windows 10 due to an issue.) I want to boot up my comp with windows 7, then access my drive 1 from there to get to my files which i currently cannot access.

I was wondering if this is even possible or feasible? Will my files from drive 1 which had windows 10 and all my stuff from my previous desktop still remain inside or will they be archived or compressed/deleted after formatting and stuff?

I would really appreciate any help here.

Thank you so much guy for your kind attention and time in helping me out! Pls have a great day ahead

If you can't access the files though a USB cables which should show both partitions then the first partition may be damaged and installing windows won't help you too much.

Lets work with the USB cable first so that we don't do anything to mess up the windows 10 since we need to recover data off of it.

When you plug it in with the USB adapter into another PC does it say one drive needs to be formatted at all or no? Also can i get a screen shot of Disk Management of that drive when plugged in?

For 7 and under - Right click on Computer/My Computer and then go to manage. Then click on Disk management under Storage

For 8 and up - Right click on the Start menu icon and then click Disk Management
If you install windows 7 on a second drive I would do this.

Install another drive but DISCONNECT ALL OTHER DRIVES!

Install Windows 7

Reconnect other drives after windows 7 is installed and set windows 7 drive as the primary boot in your BIOS.

You should now have access to the other drive so long as the Hard drive and File System are intact.

You may have to go in and take permissions of your old user folder in order to access it though.

Hi there.

What i meant was. I currently cannot access 1st partition which has windows 10, but i can access 2nd partition using a usb to sata cable.

I have e already backed up my 2nd partition and i want to format windows 7 on it, boot it up and then access my 1st partition after that to retrieve my old files.

Is this a possible way?

Thank you
