I know this has been asked many times, but none of the answers have worked for me. What happened was I installed CyberGhost VPN to download a few things. After I was done, it kept disconnecting me every 10 minutes or so, so I decided to uninstall it. That's where things went wrong. At first I could not connect to the internet at all. I tried following a few forums to find a solution. Eventually, I was able to connect to the internet, but only about 50% of the time, and it was extremely slow. I tried even more solutions and now I cannot connect to the internet at all anymore! please help!

Question:

With respect to "Every time I tried accessing a website, it shows the warning "Name resolution for the name (web URL) timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded"; what DNS servers are configured?

Could be some residual configuration settings that, per billdrop4 (if I understand correctly) may still need to be cleared out.

Try changing any DNS IP's to Google's DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

What was the source for the original download of CyberGhost?

Use Task Manager to see if some related component process or service is still starting up, running, and interferring. Or some other application that got installed at the same time.

You might try "ipconfig /flushdns" to clear the cache.

Check your adapter card settings/configuration: maybe something was changed there that needs to be reset. Uninstall and reinstall the network adapter's driver.

The original source was the cyberghost website, http://www.cyberghostvpn.com/en_us

I tried everything you said but none of it worked. There were no services, flushdns didn't work, I compared the adapter settings with my laptop and they are all the same, and reinstalling the driver didn't do anything.

The next thing to look at is a bit more complicated.

Go into the Event Viewer logs and look for errors or entries that occur just before or at the time of the disconnects.

The logs can be very confusing so be content with just looking through them at first to get yourself oriented.

This link from this forum will help:

http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-3128616/windows-event-viewer.html

Remember that right-clicking an error will provide more information. Your objective is to find some error code or other entry that corresponds to the disconnects. Something starting, stopping, happening - even information entries may help.

Alright, here's what I found:

Every time I tried accessing a website, it shows the warning "Name resolution for the name (web URL) timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded"

However, every once in a while, there are 4 errors, all exactly the same:

There are 3 that say "WLAN AutoConfig detected limit connectivity, performing Reset/Recover.adapter", all with different codes:

1 0xC 0x4
2 0xDEADDEED 0xEEEC
8 0x0 0x0

Then there's an error that says:

WLAN Extensibility Module has failed to start.

Module Path: C:\Windows\system32\athExt.dll
Error Code: 126

Changing to Google's seemed to work, however it's still pretty slow compared to before. I'm switching to a wired connection though, so this shouldn't be a problem for much longer.

Thank you for all your help!
