Best graphics card for a Dell Optiplex 3010 with an I-5 processor ddr2 slot and 8GB memory and has been relocated in a midsize tower so do not have to have the low profile ? I really don't do that much gaming now but would like to, on a fixed income, and it seems every game I try to play is just out of reach of what I have everytime I upgrade

Don't worry too much about the ram slots, if your a casual gamer than 8gbs will do you justice. Only thing you need to "worry" about for the gpu is the pcie slot. I'm guessing yours is gen2 and even at x8 you'll be fine with a RX 460, although I still think a GTX 950 is better for the buck.

The RX 460 is most likely your best option because the nvidia 9xx series lke 950 and 960 have bad DX12 support!
