So I have wanted to do some upgrades to my PC recently. I play a lot of ARK and it lags a decent amount, I have an I5-4690K CPU, GTX 960 and 8GB or ram, I know a portion of it is the game being horribly optimized, or at least to my knowledge it is. But I was wondering if I did want to upgrade my PC what would need to upgrade. I built my PC so I know a decent bit about computer parts and how they work and such, is there any sort of stress test I can run to tell me what is limiting my performance. Like is my GPU maybe bottle necking my CPU some how, is it my motherboard. I don't want to upgrade my GPU or my CPU and have it not make a difference because my motherboard is bottle necking it or something. If by chance I did say something that didn't make sense I would appreciate it if you enlightened me rather than belittled me, I am always open to learn more :) Thanks in advanced.

I have played a lot of ark aswell, and I can tell you, your i5 4690k is fine.

Your gtx 960 is holding you back, I went from a r9 380(equal to 960) to a gtx 1070. And now I can play the game on ultra but not 60fps since the game is poorly optimized.

You will also need 16gb of ram when you play on ultra since it uses more than 10gb of ram while playing.

To get the best performance from your PC, I would make sure you have all the latest drivers installed for your computer, mainly: CPU, Soundcard and Graphics card.
