I've heard that Micron memory has poor overclocking. I tested on my MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X (micron, http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/16/09/07/435.png) and if I go over just 130 core and 200 memory I get artifacts in Heaven Benchmark. So I was wondering if the EVGA FTW uses Samsung or Micron. If it uses Samsung I'm going to return the MSI and get the EVGA. Thanks.

I have 2 1070's and one has micron the other samsung, both are the exact same card from asus, and I got 700mhz (8700mhz total) from the micron (it was the first 1070 I got so I oc'd and tested it more). I could go a bit over 700 but trying to get 750 caused artifacting.

Got a 1070 ftw recently - it's micron..
But i dont think the problem is the memory itself, if you force the card to max voltage first you can achieve decent clocks. (9060mhz is my stable result, with forced high voltage state)
The problem appears in low voltage states, hardcore checkerboard artifacts that lead to bsod, hardlock or even causing monitor to enter failsafe no signal mode. So the actual stable point for me is 8500 mhz.
If i had to guess, i'd say it's a bios bug which can be fixed by nvidia partners and micron.

two 1070 cards returned that had micron memory, Finally got a Samsung one figured out where they have some left!!!! Micron ones i had were horrible. i was using the oc settings they recommended had tons of freezing issues. on asus strix oc and evga super clock
