In the near future I'll be building a new PC but in the meantime the biggest upgrade I can afford is a new GPU. I'm currently using an Asus R9 270X, and while the card is great it does seem to be struggling with some of the newer titles.

The new PC will more than likely utilise a SFF case such as the Node 202. So thermal performance, stability of the cards clock speeds and bang/buck are important. I'm not bothered by AMD or Nvidia for the new card.

Upper Limit of my budget is around the £250 mark.

Some great choice in that price bracket mate , what will limit you massively is the node 202 case.
I would honestly advice against it & look at good matx cases like the bitfenix phenom & aerocool ds, cubes like the thermal take core 21
Or if you must go mitx then mini cubes instead of flat htpc style cases.
If you do want an htpc style case then the Silverstone gd05 & gd06 are both compact matx ones & will take full size PSU s, gpu's up to 280mm & have decent preinstalled cooling.

Which version of the 1060 would you recommend as I've read that the 3GB version is cut down from the 6?
