You can easily perform the formatting/erasing procedure through Disk Management in Windows by deleting the volume and then creating a new one.
Another alternative would be through the WD Drive Utilities For Windows that allows you to register the drive, set drive timer, run diagnostics, and perform a Drive Erase.

Keep in mind that formatting/drive erase wipes all the files from the external WD My Passport.
