I have a Dell XPS 8700
I7-4770, 24 gig mem, SSD drive and HD 2 Tera,
I plan to give it to my son for gaming development. I buy an GTX-TITAN X, just upgrade PSU with Ax760 760w 80plus Plat Modular Psu. I'm concern about temperature inside the box. Can someone have some recommandation for my.. cause my son won't look at temp inside the machine and I don't want him to burn it. thanks a lot for your comment.

Could two desktops not be stacked and run off the same monitor?

If you really are restricted to one desktop then you need to ask the question of which is more important; CAD or gaming? A gaming card does work with Autodesk programs but they aren't nearly as precise as a workstation card. For example, if you were designing an engine for a car that was going to be sold to the public then you'd need the design to be absolutely spot-on. I suspect this level of precision won't be necessary for your son, in which case, a gaming card would be fine.
For gaming development you may want to consider a Quadro or FirePro GPU, depending on the software being used. A Titan X is unnecessarily expensive, as is the Corsair AX760 PSU, even though it's extremely good.

Personally, I'd consider a GPU and PSU downgrade in order to get a better case and some fans, along with a second SSD to use as a scratch drive. You can downgrade and not sacrifice quality.

Ok I will look at this solution. Like every kids, he will use it for his university cours and also do gaming. That's why I get the Titan X. for me it was better to upgrade the curent Dell XPS 8700 with this at 1200$ instead of buying a computer that will fit his need for 4000$.

What monitor do you have? A Titan-X is an absolute waste of money. There is no reason to get it over a GTX 1080, even with an unlimited budget. Why pay 600 more dollars for something that is unneeded.

Ok here's the list of software he will use on this computer : Autodesk, Maya, 3DS Max, zbrush, gamemaker and unity twine. I don't know the kind of monitor he will have he just by one recommand by his teacher.
should be something that fit his need.

Get a better CPU before you get him a Titan X. The CPU you have is not "bad" but why have an only decent CPU when you are doing graphic editing? I don't really get your reasoning behind these purchases. Get a GTX 1080 and use the extra money to get an enthusiast class MoBo and CPU.

My CAD knowledge goes back to 2013, so I may be out of date here, but for Autodesk, Maya and 3DS Max, you'll benefit more from a Quadro or FirePro GPU. The trouble is, these cards aren't suitable for gaming. To make matters worse, I highly doubt that the motherboard in the XPS 8700 will support two GPUs, so chances are you couldn't run a gaming GPU alongside a workstation one.

thanks guys for all the suggestion. I understand that the Titan X is not a good choice event I saw on the net that it was one of the best for both usage. I know the Quatro card but since he want to continue gaming he need something that will support it. About the CPU I will look at the option I can add to this Dell XPS. I just choose to use this computer cause I'm having it since 2 years and want to see if it can do the job for him. instead of spending all his evening at university lab doing his work if he could do part of it at home. Is it better to start from scratch and build a computer from scratch ? case, board, cpu, video card memory and ssd drive ?

also when you suggest me to buy a GTX 1080 I look at amazon.ca and the price is arround 900$.
I paid 910$ for the Titan X. there is a 10$ difference. don't know how can I exchange the Titan X for a 1080 and save money. I know the Titan X can be purshase at up to 2500$ and at that price for sure I would buy a Quatro card. but don't you think that for the price I paid it was a good idea to buy the Titan one ?
