Hello TH,

Suddenly out of nowhere my PC's performance is REALLY bad.
I first noticed this playing WoW where I usually run 100 FPS on highest graphics on 1920x1080p. Today out of nowhere I have 16 and can't even push 80 on LOWEST.

First, I thought this was a WoW issue, but it seems like it's not. On 09.08.2016 I ran Unigine Valley Benchmark on the following settings: Ultra, 1080p, Antialiasing x8 and got a score of 6735. Today I got 2554 and 2213...

Specs for OS, GPU, CPU and RAM:
- Windows 10
- 1080 MSI Sea Hawk X
- Intel i7 6700K @4GHz Skylake
- 2133MHz 16GB RAM

What I have tried:
- Checking fan noises. Hear nothing unusal.
- Checking CPU and GPU temps. Both around 40C (both running water-cooling).
- Checking if any Windows Updates have been installed, but none had.
- Installing lower version of GPU driver + reinstalling newest drivers. Been playing on newest drivers for a while.
- Rebooting (duh)
- Checking Task Management for weird processes. There were none.
- Checked if any system files had been edited. There were none.
- Checked for viruses and malware using different programs downloaded today. Ofcourse I didnt run them at the same time.

What do I do? I'm really sad and frustrated at this point...

Cheers,
Krister

did you try going into your BIOS and restoring everything to defaults?

I once had an issue where my ram was running at wrong clock speed, and CPU was running really hot and for some reason restoring defaults got it running normally. I then was able to go back in and add my OCs.

check Windows system/application logs. (right click "computer" select "manage" open logs)

You've rolled-back display drivers, but have you tried a "clean install" ? The NVidia installers provide that option...

With that rig, I'm guessing your game/data disk is SSD? If it's HDD, do you observe any disk thrashing?

I have 4 RAM slots so all of them are taken.

As for logs, there are only informational for today. The wierd thing is that the computer was fine earlier today when I played wow (around 07:00 AM), but when I got home at 05:00 PM it was suddenly really bad.

Yes its an SSD. Sorry for not including that detail.

I play wow, and I've found obnoxiously bad performance related to peer networking and background downloads of wow-related data. In the battle.net interface there are options to shut off peer-to-peer file/patch/update sharing - you may wish to verify those settings. I've chosen to only download while not playing the game and directly from Blizzard infrastructure.

You could also confirm the same for Windows related files - I'm not sure if it's the same in Win10, but there used to be a "windowsupdate.log" file at the root of %systemroot%\system32\*. It's a log file, you could have a look to see if there is something amiss with Windows update. I know the entire patching model changed with Win10 so I'm not sure it will bear much fruit.

There's also resource monitor in the Windows task manager. You could observe that while you have WoW open. I play WoW windowed on a 2560x1440 monitor, so task switching is a little different. I can real-time watch performance while in-game. You can do this at a lesser resolution, albeit not as enjoyable. There's also netmon, which you can configure with specific system-related counters to give you more in-depth analysis of your system... but we're really getting into the weeds here.

Was the 1080 an upgrade from another card? Or was this an entirely new build with a 1080? Do you have a spare vid card to try in place of the 1080?

This may seem stupid, but did you dust in and around your case with air lately? If not you should, the posted temps are CPU and the core of the GPU, not the other components which because they're not part of the water loop might be overheating due to dust buildup and slowing everything down.

Does either your mobo or gpu have multiple bios with a switch? Is it possible you accidentally flipped it? If so can't really hurt to try flipping it to see if there is a performance difference.

is it possible somehow you are running off you dedicated video card for some reason.

remove your GPU, and run off dedicated graphics for sure and see if it changes.

If you have this issue either you GPU took a crap or you might need to reinstall drivers.

I remove dust frequently (every other week) with duster that doesnt create static or humidity. Also use antistatic mat and band while I do this. Also no scratches on components in the case.

No multiple bios on mobo. :/

Did reinstall of drivers and clean install of drivers. Didnt work.
Also tried removing GPU but that wasnt the issue either.
