Hi,

My rig was built back in 2009 and I know it is aging but it works just great... Well until my graphics card died a few weeks ago. I am going to buy a new card in the next day or so but as my components are getting rather old I need advice on whether the two cards I am picking between will work and whether or not they would work but be very slow due to compatibility issues.

I am not going to be upgrading any component other than the GPU so that route is a no go. My rig is:

CPU = AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz Socket AM3 6MB L3 Cache

Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P 790X Socket AM3 DDR3 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

Memory = OCZ 4GB KIT (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600Mhz PC3 12800 GOLD SERIES DUAL CHANNEL KIT (8-8-8-26)

Case = Antec P182 Gunmetal Grey Super Mid Tower Case

Power supply = Corsair 650W TX Series PSU - 120mm Fan, 80+% Efficiency, Single +12V Rail

Video Card: XFX ATI Radeon 4770 512MB DDR5 PCI-E DVI [Card now Dead]

Hard Drive = Western Digital 750GB Hard Drive SATA300 7200rpm 32MB Cache Caviar Black – OEM

CD/DVD Burner = LiteOn 20x DVD±RW Dual Layer & Ram IDE Black Bare Drive - OEM

The two cards I am picking between are R7 360 or RX470:

XFX Radeon R7 360 Graphics Card (2 GB, GDDR5):
https://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-Radeon-Graphics-Card-GDDR5/dp/B00ZCBEO2C

XFX RADEON RX 470 CORE EDITION 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/xfx-radeon-rx-470-core-edition-4096mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-23f-xf.html

I know te RX 470 is twice as good but if my rig isnt going to be able to use it then there is no point getting that card.

The GPU will be used for gaming - overwatch and bioshock at the moment. It will also be used for home photo editing and light video editing.

Thats for the advice in advance.

Kind Regards

Well thing is your CPU will be a bottleneck however that doesn't mean you won't get more FPS with the better card. However if you decided to upgrade your rig the 470 will probably be good to go for while when your ready to upgrade. That being said the R7 is a big upgrade over the 4770 so if you were happy with that 4770 then just save some money and get the R7 360 card.
