I put in a new Hardrive into my wver laptop but I need Windows on it so I have a USB with a bootable version of Windows. The bios for some reason will not detect the USB.

Solution
If you know how to enter the bios setup on the laptop.
Go into the setup, and look for an option that says detect legacy usb devices Geoff.

Enable it.

Then save the new changes before you exit the bios setup.
The usb flash drive should then be detected.

Make sure as well that if your laptop is very new what speed of usb port you are plugging the flash drive into Geoff.
If using a usb 3.0 port some usb flash devices are not detected, you must use a usb 2.0 enabled port instead ok.

I just had to reinstall windows and as Shaun suggested, the USB 3.0 was not recognized. Use 2.0. This may also be true for your keyboard and mouse.

Also, when installing windows, when you get to the first selection screen, the installer may say that it cant find the media. If so, click cancel and get back to the Install Windows button, then remove the USB and try another USB 2.0 port and try again. I had to repeat this 4 or 5 times for it to work.
