Hi. First time pc builder here... While I thought hey I could save a little money and have a little fun I could build my own gaming pc. Did a little homework and picked up all my components. Trouble is I can't run any games T_T. I have already exchanged the motherboard once, the graphics card and the ssd for new ones. I go to run a game... And I get the error "game has stopped working" a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." If it doesn't do that the whole system freezes forcing me to hard power down. I have even gotten blue screen erros "Watchdog time out". It has been doing this to me for quite some time. It does it to me on ffxiv, shadows of mordor (which I have on steam) and elder scrolls online EVERYTIME! It doesn't not do it to me (at least rarely) on South Park stick of truth, and fable anniversary which are both on steam. I have wiped and reinstalled windows a few times. When I wipe it, they work for a few days, then it starts all over again.. No idea whats going on... i have done ALL the windows updates, all graphic card updates via geforece experience. I have run the cpu diagnostic tool from intel, memtest for the ram, and CCcleaner. Nothing seems to be running too hot via via monitors of the gpu from the motherboard software, and the graphics card is not running hot via gpu monitotring software. I am able to surf the web and watch netflix, just cant seem to game T_T. Im in WAY over my head!

These are the componets that make up my pc
intel i7 6700k (Stock settings... has NEVER been OC)
hyper t4 cpu cooler
ballistic ddr4 ram 2x 8gb sticks 2400
asus z170-ar motherboard.
evga 750 G2 power supply
nvidia gtx 1060 strix OC version (tried in gaming mode as well as OC mode, doesnt matter)
WD 1tb blue slave Hard drive
intel ssd 540 240gb

I have checked the event viewer and have gotten these errors

I hope I put this in the right thread. If i didnt I'm sorry. I appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thank you in advance.

Solution
Try the mobo's second x16 slot. It could be the PCIe slot that has a problem. If the problem persists even then, it's probably the CPU (that's where the GPU PCIe lanes go).
Build looks good, I'd say that your Windows installation is just messed up. Do a fresh install of Windows and see if the problem persists.

Based on the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT error, if fresh Windows install doesn't work (if a fresh install on the SSD doesn't help, try fresh install on the HDD), then the problem is with your CPU. That error basically means that something went wrong when handling CPU threads. The most likely culprit is corrupt Windows files because a CPU/motherboard problem that could cause something like this would usually cause more severe issues too.

I concur with Mr Kagouris.
I am 90% sure it's your Windows installation.
Perform a fresh install of Windows. Nothing older than Windows 7 and I wouldn't recommend an installation of Windows 8 or 8.1
Stick to either Windows 7 or Windows 10. Make sure it's 64bit not 32bit to take full advantage of your hardware.

Nope... Everything in the build is 100% stock. Nothing at all is overclocked

Just finished wiping and reinstalling windows on the ssd.... Still getting the error game has stopped working" a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." and event viewer shows the same thing

Faulting module name: nvwgf2umx.dll,

Haven't gotten a blue screen yet. I'm wondering though... Isn't that an nvidia error?

nvwgf2umx.dll is part of the Nvidia drivers afaik, do you have new drivers installed?
I'd try changing to a newer one, or an older version if that doesn't work

I clicked solved by accident... It's not solved... I don't know how to undo it...but I did update to the newest driver... It was a brand new install on a reformatted ssd with a fresh copy of Windows.

Nope. Tried the oldest version... Still Crashes before the game even boots from steam. Seems to only affect shadows of mordor and ffxiv from the games I have...so is this an nvidia error, windows error, or cpu error?

Honestly I use Windows 8.1 over 10, because there are so many problems with Windows 10 for me. It's really a matter of opinion.

You are free to use whatever OS you desire. In my experience Windows 8 and 8.1 have serious compatibility issues when it comes to games. I've personally never had an issue with Windows 10. But nonetheless it might be your copy of Windows that is corrupt in general so even doing a fresh install won't help because the files in the installation disc or flash drive are possibly bad. try installing a fresh copy from another installation source like a different installation disc.

I will try ddu when I get home any particular link you recommend (I don't want to download the wrong thinv and add to the problem) and I have tried to run them with the Motherboards on board gpu... On board I am able to load them without error but the lag/fps makes them unplayable. To run the on board gpu I had to remove the strixb1060 (which I assume is normal).

Update... Since then nothing has helped... I even went so far as to take it to bestbuy for them to look at (I know people will say they suck etc don't want to make it a bestbuy flame war thing) and after 8 days they said... We don't know what else to do. Is it possible motherboard graphics card incompatiblity or cpu or some kind of hardware incompatiblity?

I have also uninstalled the gtx 1060 graphics card then ran ccleaner. installed my wife's working gtx 1080 and installed the drivers to that... Got the same errors. So I don't believe it's the actual graphics card. It's just very weird.

Turns out after running prime95 it was a bad cpu. Replaced motherboard with an MSI Z170A GAMING M... Replaced cpu for the same one I7 6700k...working like a charm now. Thanks for all the help everyone!
