For reasons of general security and EMF pollution (not getting into a debate on that BTW), I'm looking for a router with adjustable signal strength, so that I can "turn it down" if it's more signal than I need. Do any current models allow this kind of adjustment? TIA

That is a very common feature. Most tplink and asus device have the option. You will need to read the manuals and look under the radio settings screen to ensure the particular model does. Many times you can load third party firmware to get that feature on many routers also.

Be very careful about turning it down too much. Your neighbors likely have theirs set to maximum output and their stronger signals will cause much more interference if you set the signal level too low.
