Hey guys.
I've just moved into a new house and having some difficulty stretching the physical network connections to other rooms.
I have two BT phone sockets, one upstairs and one downstairs. I have connected our router to the downstairs socket and connected my TV, smart box and Xbox physically. Router and wifi is working great. I have my office in the bedroom upstairs with my PC, which is next to the other BT socket. I may be using my office to set up other computers so will need a physical connection with a switch in the room.
My problem is trying to reach an ethernet connection to this room. There is too much distance to run a network cable and don't want to start drilling holes at this point just to run a cable. I have also tried using the Powerline adapters but everytime I do I reach around 5mbps and every so often the internet drops out on the router and need to restart.
The only solution I can think of at the moment is trying to do something with this secondary BT socket upstairs. I know you can't just get an adsl to ethernet adapter as this won't be on the existing LAN, so I was wondering if it's possible to set up a secondary router linked to my existing LAN so I can provide a physical connection?
Is this possible? What other methods could I try? What have you done in this situation? I am ruling out using the powerline adapters as I've always had problems with them and you never know how good your power cables are wired in the house. Any help is much appreciated.
