Can I increase size of laptop heat sink?

I am looking to keep heat down on my upcoming wooden laptop.

While the machine is in pieces… is it possible/worth it to increase the size of the heatsink? Can just add a bit of metal? The heat sink in this 10" form factor machine is just a flat metal plate - no blades for obvious reasons.

Sorry, I am in uncharted territory here and want this machine to last after all the work that has gone into it.

Yes, I have high quality thermal paste on standby when it comes to fitting the electronics. Only my father in law suddenly took it upon himself to build us a shelf rack… even though we hadn't asked him. Dunno what that was about.

Thanks in advance.

Judging by the cutout in the motherboard, there was once a fan installed. I hope you don't try to run it without a fan.

That said, pressing a larger sheet of metal against the "heatsink", with some thermal compound or adhesive between the two, will probably help with cooling.

OK just taken pictures.

The motherboard and electronics come from a 2010 MSI u135dx with a 1.6GHz n455 atom process. Single core. Doesn't get much more minimal than that.

Pictures of MB and heatsink supplied. As you can see, it's all pretty minimal.

Oh yes! I will, most certainly be running the fan!! Good gracious, yes! And the hard drive and monitor as well!
;)

Anyway, thanks for the advice. Glad I can do something to improve CPU cooling as wood traps heat. Will try and find some lightweight metal. Thanks again!
