I'm in desperate need of getting a new monitor and I think I have one picked out but I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews and I wanted to post here first before deciding on anything.

I'm a graphic designer and a gamer so picture quality is everything and although, both are important given my career/hobby, RGB accuracy is more important to me than Framerate. My current monitor is old and starting to crap out on me. I know the technology is a bit new but I want a 27", 1440p, 144hz+, IPS, and G-Sync monitor. All of the reviews I've been reading on the Asus PG279Q have been scary. I found ViewSonic's XG2703-GS but the reviews on it are very limited to non-existent... none-the-less what little I have read about ViewSonic's is more positive than any of ASUS's monitors or any of the monitors with the above specs and at a decent price ($700).

So that is my first question: Have any of you actually used the XG2703-GS and how does it compare to the other monitors of it's like? Would you recommend a different monitor all together?

My second question is: Which GPU(s) should I get with it?

I have a single GTX 970 and it has served me well for the time I've had it but I've been using it with a crummy monitor. I've been reading a ton of reviews about how the 970 doesn't handle very well the kind of monitor I want. Not sure if I should get the new 1080, 1070, or buy two 980TIs with SLI? I'm a bit reluctant to go with the latter. I want this to last me another 3 years at least and with all the negative reviews I've read about the 9 series performance, spending more money on them doesn't seem like a wise decision moving forward.

Current Rig Info:
ASUS P9X79 Motherboard
Intel i7-3930K chip
32GB RAM
850w PSU
MSI GTX 970 GPU

Sorry for the long post... I appreciate your time and advice!

If graphic design is your living, you'll have to get a display that is best suited to that, 60Hz/60FPS is fine for gaming, especially if the graphics card can produce that as a minimum, rather than average frame rate.
Hang-the-9 gives some good advice about the Dells, they're superb parts for your living and are still OK as gaming displays.
My advice: Go for a Dell Ultrasharp and, if the GTX970 is struggles at 1440 rez go for a decent, 'stock clocked' GTX1070 as graphics, (stock clocks are 1506 and 8000 memory) don't worry about the Boost clocks, and look for a dual fan cooled card to keep it quiet, and AFAIK all of them have a fan off feature that renders the card silent under light loads. Enable Vsync in the games to prevent tearing...
My go-to monitor series for quality and accuracy are the Dell Ultrasharp models. I have not seen any very recent comparisons with them, but several years ago they were always in the top few spots among higher end monitors. They have a new model with Premier Color which is on the higher end of the prices http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&sku=210-AGGP http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&sku=210-AHGV

The thing with those is they are 60 hz and no gsync. I am not sure if any monitors made for graphic design would have those, you may need to decide between a gaming or a color accuracy pro monitor.

Hmm... both of the monitors I was talking about in my original post have 144hz and G-Sync. That UP2716D seems to be amazingly accurate with color but $800 is pushing my budget too much. The other one you linked, the Dell U2717D seems to be putting out the same color accuracy as the ViewSonic but the ViewSonic has 144hz and G-Sync for only $50 more.

It seems the ViewSonic XG2703-GS is going to be my best bet based on all the stuff I've read and replies I've received from posts.
