Hi,
So my mobo uses this PSU dell ac290am-00 which has an 8 PIN mobo connector and 4 PIN CPU connector.
I bought this today EVGA 500 W1
I went home and tried to install but i'm missing 1 cable.
I found a cable labled CPU which has 8 PIN so I used 4 PIN only and it fits into the socket.
But then that was the only 8 PIN cable in the box. The other cables are PCI-E and 20+4 PIN.
Then i read another thread that says I can use a 4 PIN cable to power the board.
So now does that mean the same cable that powers my CPU can also power my motherboard? In other words, 4 PIN plugged into the CPU, 4 PIN plugged into the mobo?
I plugged the PCI-E cable into the 8 PIN mobo socket and that didn't power on the mobo. I was terrified so I plugged the old PSU back and now my computer turned on. So I guess I didn't fry the board.
I attach the picture so you can see what i'm talking about. Thanks in advance.
