So I just reinstalled Windows 8.1 last night clean install. Everything is golden besides my hard drive started showing signs of failure. I'm going to an ssd for it but I don't want to have to go through installing Windows again and redoing all my settings. Is acronis true image what I'm looking for to clone the hdd to sdd without the hassle of reinstalling. What should I do? Is there a different methods? What's the best method?

Ahh.....that is a whole different thing. No problem.
And you should have a backup. The above mentioned Macrium Reflect does this easily.

My main C drive is backed up to another drive every night at 2AM. Keep 2 weeks worth of images, so I can go back to whatever day I choose.

1. What size is the new SSD?
2. How much total used space is on the C drive or partition?
3. How much of that is doc/music/video/Steam games?
4. What make/model SSD is it?

Assuming everything fits, I have a series of steps...:)

Just going with a sandisk 120gb. Only 25 gb use on my hdd. It's a fresh install with on steam and one game installed. That's all I need. So the space isn't an issue

These steps, in order:

Download and install Macrium Reflect
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just as like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.

I just don't want To go though all this if in the end it winds up to be like upgrading Windows 8-10 where somethings function and somethings don't after the upgrade. Best to do a fresh install then a upgrade of Windows. So maybe better to do a fresh install then a clone. Or does it work flawlessly?

But I would also like the idea to have a image back up to where if something happenes to my Windows. Say like if something messes up I could just load the ssd back to the fresh install point. Kinda like a system restore but not

Either way.
If you've just done a clean install of 8.1, then maybe just redo that on the SSD.
But I have had really good luck with the cloning operation. Everything functions as it did before, just on a new drive. I'm using one of those right now.
840EVO 250GB SSD to 850 EVO 500GB. Clone works flawlessly.

In your case though, I'd probably just reinstall on the SSD, with only the SSD connected. An install last night is of no consequence. Just redo it.
But the options are there.
