So I wanted to see what the best GPU mty rig coudl handle without and bottlenecking. Could I run a 1060 or 1070? Is that even wort it or am I better off with a 980? Even thought 1060s are cheaper (slightly) than a 980.

That is the link to my rig

Thank you very much. Please keep in mins that I would like to spend as little money as possible.

Solution
1060/480 - 1080p/60, 1080p/144, 1440p/60
1070/furyX - 1440p/60, 1440p/144, 4k/30
1080/295x2 - 4k/30, 4k/60

Thats general, roughly. There are quite a few games that don't conform, you could probably play minecraft stock on a 1060 at 4k or heavily modded GTA :V at 1080p on a 1080 and get decent frames. A lot depends on the games you play and preference on detail settings. To run just about anything at 1440p/144 ultra max, would prolly take a 1080 but your cpu won't handle that too well.
I'd stick with 1080p, maybe a 144Hz at best with a gtx1060. It would take either 3570k or 3770k with a decent OC to get the best usage from a 1070 or better.

as far as resolution I don't care about 4k that it WAAAAY out of my price range. I currently run at 1080 but if I could do slightly better I would.

if you are playing at 1080p.Go for rx 480 or 1060 but if you want to go 1440p or above then suggest the 1070 or 1080

It sounds like going above 1080 would be more of an investment than I can currently commit to. I'm not even sure if my monitor can do 1440p. :/ I play games like Overewatch and Witcher 3 and Mass Effect (I'm gearing up for Andromeda, that's why I am upgrading) So would you suggest the 1060 or rx 480 given the games I play. Also cheaper better because I am a full-time student. haha.

Since predicted minimums for ME Andromeda seem to be on the i5 4460 and r9 280/gtx670 for 50+fps at 1080p on high, you should be fine with a 1060 and your 3470 although the cpu might struggle at some ultra settings, depending on the engine and how extensive the cpu portion is.

If you are going to game on 1080p, definitely get the 1060. Many benchmark comparisons show that the 1060 is better at 1080p than the RX480. Unless you want to run 1440p, dont get the RX480. Your cpu should be good enough for the 1060 considering most games these days require more graphics power rather than cpu power and as long as it doesn't bottleneck you should be fine. I play overwatch at Ultra with a 960 and get stable 80-90 frames so you should be set at Epic with a 1060. As to Witcher and Mass Effect, I have never personally played those games but you should get by fine with your rig. Good luck :D
