A week or two ago, I heard a loud pop from my power supply. I got a very cheap one from eBay for like £15 and used it in my old PC and transferred it to my new one along with a msi z97s krait edition and an i7 4790k.

I bought that power supply because my one failed in my PC which was like 8 years old at the time. So I decided to get a new cheap one.

After it exploded, a lot of small pieces came out of it when I removed it and I'm very scared for my motherboard and cpu! Idk if it got fried or not. I spent half a year saving up for that PC and if it would die like that I would be so upset!

So now I'm at the stage when I'm able to purchase a new power supply (a good one this time) but I've been reading a lot of things on situations like this and people have mixed thoughts on this.

Please help me! What do you think the chances of my motherboard and coy surviving are? If anything, I could call up Amazon and they might be able to replace the motherboard for me but not the cpu.

Thanks

Not necessarily a cheap PS but probably. Question. Did you have to connect up any wires yourself? I remember about 15-20 years ago buying a PS that had no instructions or labels for the cables. Back then you could connect the PS backwards and when I did POW. There are usually a safety built in for a one-time accident like that but no guarantee when companies don't obey the law. Good luck. As SR pointed out you could have done more damage than you know. :(
