Do you have the Alienware X51 R1 or R2? Regardless, you'd be best served by viewing upgrade videos on YouTube:

It appears that all the upgrades I've viewed in the past several minutes involve either reference cards or vendor cards with blower style fans, since this is a SFF.

I personally hate the idea that the power supply is external, and know of no way to upgrade it. If you're intent on not abandoning this build, then you might consider moving all the components to a new case, and investing in a new power supply and graphics card:

Looking at like 200$ at max.
I am unsure as to the power supply. I am not sure if it external on internal. The computer came with a power cord that is attached to a block. The block says, 100-240V 50-60hz
Again I am not sure if that is the power supply information you are asking about.

The Alienware X51 looks like a Mini-ITX build with an external power supply.
That "block" will likely have a WATTS rating on it, but to be honest, you're likely going to have to pop open the case and see how much space you even have to install a card.

Based on the look of the back panel of the X51, the GPU is on a Riser Card, hence your need to find out how much physical space you have to work with.

*edit*

You seem to have an older version of this http://

ok...lets pu all the speculations to rest...

the x51 has ample space for a full profile gpu...u can see it here... http://kbimg.dell.com/library/KB/DELL_ORGANIZATIONAL_GROUPS/DELL_GLOBAL/Alienware/X51/x51%205.jpg

and here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6cDXahdDtQ

now keeping in mind ur budget, u can go for either the rx470 or the gtx1060...they are both gud though 1060 might give u better performance...
the 1060 suggested above is a 3gb card, without enuf cuda inside...i wud suggest that u go for the 6gb card instead as it is much more powerful, but might cost u 50bucks extra...which is worth it...

this is a small profile card and shd be appropriate for u...u can take a luk if u wish...

It does have plenty of space. I've built numerous ITX systems and there is plenty of room in the X51 case.
