Yo, looking to get a new GPU. Budget is 300-350 dollars, currently setup with old but alright Ivy Bridge MOBO and an i5 3570k. Any ideas? Willing to wait until early 2017 for some new models, but November is ideal for me <3

Future-proofing in Vulkan and DX12 is also important for me, when I get a card I stick with it for usually about 3 years. Will be keeping on my 1080p monitor however, seeing as it's the only 144hz offering resolution so no big VRam required.

An aftermarket model GTX 1070 https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=searc... would be an excellent card to pair with the rest of your setup and should last you the next 3 years (depending on your expectations and technology progression). I'm currently using the ROG STRIX model and have also had the G1 Gaming model. Both are excellent but the STRIX is my preference. You really can't go wrong with any of them from ASUS, EVGA, MSI, or Gigabyte. I've heard that the Zotac models are catching up in quality if you want to take a stab at one of those.
For your budget the GTX 1060 is a good option at $260. But since you mentioned 1080p @ 144 Hz, the GTX 1070 would be an even better fit, but you would need to raise your budget to as high as $460.

You could sell your old graphics card to help subsidize your budget and buy a GTX 1070. Or you could proceed with the ease of buying a GTX 1060. I recommend that you view some YouTube comparisons of the two cards and see if you can live with the 1060 performance or not.

If you plan to keep the card for 3 years I'd definitely go for the 1070. 1060 is basically a 980 and 980 has 1-2 more years before you have to dial down every grpahics setting by a lot.

Maybe wait for christmas and look for soem good deal for the 1070 so that it fits your budget. Or, what is very advisable IMO, get a good 980ti. I saw some for $400 recently.

hmmm, yeah thanks for the suggestions. At 144hz I do think I may be leaning more towards a 1070, it's ALOT of extra money though. I know this might sound like a joke, but my old card is a gt 640 so I don't think selling it will help much =\

980ti is interesting, my only concern is the old architecture not being well optimized for newer future engines like DX12 and Vulkan, as well as the tendency for old Nvidia cards to erm.. "go out-of-date" with their driver updates after a new gen is released. The 28 nm power draw is no problem for me though, seeing as i have a 650watt psu.

Any thoughts on RX 490 MSRP for december? Under 400 dollars?

EDIT: Also, will a 3570k bottleneck me in a 1070?

Don't worry about 980ti. It will last you as long as a 1070 will. I'm sure of it. They're pretty much on par with performance. What you won't get with Maxwell is VR performance. Other than that a 1070 = 980ti but the 980ti are getting much cheaper now as they're last gen.

With your current CPU, I'd say that GTX 1060 would be ideal match.
If you had an i7, i'd strongly recommend GTX 1070 (though a bit over your budget at 400$).
You can go GTX 1070, and it's an awesome card for 1080p@144Hz, just have in mind that in some games, i5 will not be enough to use the GTX 1070 to it's fill potential.
Also, upgrading to a newer i5 like 6600K is pointless in terms of gaming performance.

Hmm, I've done some reading and determined that the 1070 also excels in DX12, as well as being possibly improved due to driver updates. I will definitely not be going for VR anytime soon... but is going for outdated architecture really an alright idea for a GPU I'll be keeping for 3 years?

Yeah, ok I think I've finally decided to simply bite the bullet and purchase a 1070. Thanks to all the post contributors.
