So I bought an old PC and gtx 750ti and sure it can run some things like Sonic Generations at 60 fps at 1080p, but no way could it play GTA 5 smoothly even in Safe Mode. So I'm upgrading to this, but interested to know how well it might perform, and if I can upgrade it further?

Phenom II X4 960T (I think the best for the motherboard)
Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 cooler
ASUS M4A78LT-M LE (95W max CPU)
MSI GTX 750ti
8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
EVGA 600W PSU

thanks!

I'd still say it's oranges and bananas.

You could make the comparisons by running those games on your system and then compare them to what other people report on their consoles. But then you get a Windows Update or you install some other program which may completely ruin your FPS or knock it through the roof. There's just no telling what may happen.

That platform is dead. Don't sink any more money into it. Consider an i3 6100 or i5 6500, whichever you can afford.

6th gen i5 does smooth 60+fps in GTAV without a sweat.

I've highlighted your untrue statement. No mention of the GPU there, so it means anotehr thing :)

Unfortunately, I would agree that the only reasonable upgrade at this point would be to a new motherboard/CPU combination. If you went with an Intel Core I5-4xxx series processor, you could still use your current RAM, but I would recommend looking at a Core I5-6xxx series processor and a DDR4 RAM kit.

Any recommendations would really depend on budget, but I would expect you'd need to put at least $250 into this upgrade.

You'll probably need to turn down the settings in game, but it should be achievable.

Neither. Comparing PCs to Consoles is like comparing oranges to bananas. The code for a game on a console is completely different to the code for the same game on a PC, Console coders know exactly what type of hardware they have to work with and design the performance for that hardware. PC game coders do not have that luxury. The best they can do is aim for some arbitrary level of hardware and hope the user's computer isn't too screwed up with other applications running in the background to run the game properly.

Okay, how about if I compare detail/fps/res for example GTA5, Doom, Witcher 3 on mine to a PS4. I know that PS4 games are optimised for the console. Wondering if the end result is the PS4 would likely be better...?

What it actually comes down to is not pure performence or quality, which are laughable on both, but your personal preference, especially regarding teh control system.

Ahh ok. I have a PS4, but want to get into PC gaming without spending a bomb, and was sick of paying for online on PS4. Was aiming for 1080p 30fps or 720p with higher fps in modernish games. Soon realised that my £29 PC and £70 GPU was not going to cut it (despite running Sonic at 1080p 60fps). Although I could probably have got away with the stock cooler and stock PSU with the Phenom II X4 processor, and even the 4GB RAM I thought I'd upgrade them all too. So now the price is running about the same price as a PS4. Hardly breaking the bank, but I'm no entirely sure if I'm getting my moneys worth when I'm still using my PS4 and using a Mac as my main computer. Time will tell I guess.

If it will play Planet Coaster reasonably well I'll be happy..!
