Hello Tom's community.

I recently acquired some old systems, particularly a couple Prescott Pentium 4, 2.8 & 3.0Ghz with 1GB DDR 333Mhz.

I wonder if anyone has experience running various Linux distributions on this older hardware.

Would this system's performance be in the ballpark of the likes of a Raspberry Pi?

Solution
Yes, you can run Linux on them without a problem. The performance would really depend on all the parts in the system and the Linux version you install.

I am asking about Linux because I'm not spending a cent on an OS for this hardware. I'm trying to acquire a small population of Linux systems for me to tinker / learn with. The only thing I would spend money on for these systems is a power supply.

Fair enough.

Would totes malotes reccomend Lubuntu or Cub linux for an older system.

Ubuntu MATE is good too.

If you're comfortable with command line configurations Debian is also grand.
