Hi, i was looking for a GTX 1060 when i saw the 3GB model on sale for around 255 dollars. Meanwhile a GTX 1060 6GB costs around 350 dollars.(things are pretty expensive in Denmark). Is it worth to save the 100 dollars and go for the 3Gb model, or should i go for the 6GB card?

Thanks in advance.

If we look at numbers, then the 6GB is 10% faster for 30% more money. As I said, if you don't mind dialing down anti-aliasing in the future, get the 3GB. But also keep in mind that maybe there won't be many games that need much more VRAM and you won't have to dial anything down. It's a gamble but not a very risky one, IMO.
how about those RX? almost a full hundred more for the 6GB model is quite expensive. the extra VRAM will be very useful in VRAM hungry games. but if you're fine with turning down some setting so the VRAM usage did not exceed 3GB then i don't see problem for you opt for 3GB model. but the 3GB model also a bit slower than 6GB because it also has less active shader count than 1060 6GB. means even if those 3GB have 6GB VRAM from the start they will still slower than the original 1060

Depends on the games you're going to play, since the GTX 1060 is made to run efficiently with the 1080p that means most of the games will use around 1.7-2.5gb of the V-RAM. you can say that the 6gb one is just a future-proof for the upcoming games, but who cares; you can low some settings if the V-RAM usage is 3GB and continue playing.

I have looked at the RX cards. The RX 470 4GB is around 280 dollars while the RX 480 8GB is also around 350 dollars as the 1060 6GB. Is the GTX 1060 3GB still the best choice or is the RX 470 4GB better?

in general 1060 3GB still end up with more performance.

TPU test 18 games all together. and looking at 4k res numbers (where those extra 1GB might give advantage to 470 4GB) we see they tied with DEMD, 1 FPS win for Hitman. the only definite win for RX470 is in the rise of tomb raider where the FPS is 12fps vs 17fps. though even in 1080p 1060 lose badly to RX470. so it could be VRAM issue or something else entirely causing 1060 3GB to perform badly. but as the other 15 title 1060 3G still come out on top even at 4k res.

The 3GB is plenty enough for now. The problem is that we do not know how VRAM intensive the games will get in the next few years. If you're on a tight budget, get the 3GB and just dial down Anti-Aliasing in the future.

Yup that's the problem, but i think i'm gonna go with the 3GB for now and then upgrade in 2-3 years. If the 6GB model was 50 dollars more expensive than the 3GB i would have went for it, but 100 dollars more seems to be a little too much to justify imo.
So the question is, whether or not it's better to use the 100 dollars now or is it better to save them for 2-3 years on a new card?
